In a radio interview with Paul Vandenburgh on Talk 1300, Sunday, May 25, Mayor Brian Marsh discusses a destructive fire at the Menands firehouse, which was likely caused by a lithium battery inside an iPad. While the facility is currently unusable and one emergency vehicle was destroyed, the Mayor reports that no serious injuries occurred during the incident. Bad weather ironically aided the response by keeping local first responders at home and ready to deploy immediately. To maintain public safety, the village is coordinating a plan to operate out of a neighboring fire station while damage assessments continue. The community is now focused on decontaminating equipment and evaluating the structural integrity of the station to begin repairs.
